Ok, I only have one band to recommend, and I'm sure some of you have heard them before.

Coheed and Cambria. I just saw them for the second time on Wednesday, and they put on a great show. Very good live. Plus, there is nothing like a man with huge hair and a slightly girly voice.

Listen and love.

i forgot! death from above 1979 - you're a woman i'm a machine
so good! and it's only two guys.

Wait now...
Posted by Nerhael on Oct 19, 2004
The band name is "Death from above 1979"???

you better believe it.
Posted by sarah on Oct 19, 2004
the album is pink with the two members faces on it with weird elephant nose type thingers. www.deathfromabove1979.com

What I find amazing

Is how when i hear about a new band, I hear about them in like 9 places.

This is the 3rd or 4th recommendation for for Interpol I've seen in the past week.

That is

very very very true Paul.

When someone starts getting good coverage, they blow up, and become the next "it" band: White Stripes, Franz Ferdinand, Modest Mouse, Interpol, Death From Above, Dizzee Rascal.

Sometimes the hype is warranted, sometimes it's not, in my opinion.

my 2 musical cents

apostle of hustle is awesome.

lightning bolt is a band worth downloading. experimental instrumental hardcore, with a lowly bass player and drummer going insane.

i would also recommend the arcade fire - funeral

all i have to say about arcade fire is: they have a god damned accordian.

dont believe the hype
Posted by bryan on Oct 20, 2004
hype is a big double edged SWORD/NIFE hybrid.

white stripes. good. i like the white stripes. GODS OF ROCK? no... they made a couple of good albums, and a decent album and a totally shit (with the exception of a couple of tracks) album...

but without the hype i wouldnt have found the good albums.

interpol and death from above 1979 are two bands i havent bothered downloading, but from the brief samplings i have heard they were worth another look...

Yeah, I've recently found Arcade Fire, and was very happy.

Will have to try out some of the others. Music is getting stale at the moment. Need to grab some stuff off home computer so I have stuff to listen to at work. Notebook needs more space damnit.

doh!

i totally forgot to add arcade fire to the list. they ARE good. and apparently amazing live, if you get the chance GO GO GO.

and bryan as for death from above, i think you should check them out. don't watch their video. i was very turned off of them after watching that. i think the two guys are wankers. BUT they make good music. the drummer sings and the other guy just goes nutso on the bass.

also if you really want to check out something neat, and my most recent obsession a two man duo from japan called dry and heavy. electronic reggae!!! it's fun.

and as for intrpol i was pumping thier last album about a year ago. i made pete listen to it. i'm not liking the new one quite as much but it's alright.

i don't really care what bands get hype so long as they stay true to their roots and don't completely change their sound.

next thursday october 28 at the el mocombo fight like gentlemen are playing. check it out! they're good.

Whoa
Posted by phduffy on Oct 20, 2004
I don't know if you're talking about the same Fights Like Gentlemen that I"m thinking of, but I've seen them and they kicked ass.

(I saw them when they were Junior)

In fact, if this is the same Fights LIke Gentlemen, Kristian is very good friends with them.

i cant check out anything these next couple weeks, im currently in the process of moving....

but i will download definitely....as well as these japanese fellows you speak of...

i m just going to toss out some stuff that ive been diggin on lately... it might not necessarily be new....

A) the microphones - glow pt 2, its not new or anything but its good....

B) sonic youth - sonic nurse - if you like sonic youth then this is worth picking up.

C) asa chang and junray - junray song chang - INSANE experimental Japanese psyche folk, a beautiful album that took me more than one listen to wrap my head around. Tabla bongos mixed with electronic beats and japanese spoken word type singing.

D) the minibosses - NES MUSIC RE-imagined with two guitarists, bass and drums... oh my god. they have a megaman2 medley that is without a doubt the most awesome thing i have ever heard.

why did i number these with letters?

i'm not sure that we are thinking of the same fight like gentlemen. one of the band members is a co-worker of mine. they come from barrie. and as far as i know their name has always been fight like gentlemen BUT i could be wrong.

and bryan! i'll check those bands out. the third one sounds awesome!

Who are you people? I used to live with Brett and Tony in Barrie. Now, I understand that Tony knows a shit load of people, but how is it that he seems to know all these online people that I know thru Paul? Weird.

Ya, Junior = Fights Like Gentlemen, exact same people/band, different name. And they kick ass. They're like poppy rock, very meolidic, and they can get the crowd moving. I highly recommend attending the show.

Sarah...do you know Erin too?

this is all too strange.
i've met erin once or twice ... i don't think she would be able to pick me out of a group.
i asked tony about you yesterday cause this situation is way to bizarre and he described you as "his brainy old roommate"
small world. very small world.

also...
Posted by sarah on Oct 22, 2004
i think we should stop talking about tony...he would enjoy this far too much.
