Forum posts for Remember to Vote!

I'm all for voting, but please tell me why my vote is more important as a woman? Does it count double?

I shouldn't have phrased it as being more important, maybe more meaningful. And not your vote, but the act of you voting. There are people alive today who were born when women weren't allowed to vote. Women didn't used to be allowed to vote! What the hell!

My god, what a horrible voter turn out this year... The same people who didn't vote are probably the biggest complainers of them all... Maybe the government should implement some sort of citizenship deal where if you don't vote for two elections you have to GTFO of Canada...

voter turn out was about 59%

Your vote doesn't count? 41% didn't vote, if they had, we would either have a majority governement right now, or someone else in power.. It makes me incredibly angry that people cannot take 15 minutes out of their lives to make this country stronger...

Oh well, I guess that's a choice too...

I totally agree. Voter turn out is always pathetic and always pisses me off. I'd like to see some funding put into surveying registered voters who didn't vote to figure out why they didn't vote. Or is this information out there somewhere for previous elections?

It's going to be the same thing in the U.S. in 3 weeks. Actually I'll be surprised if they make 59%.

FOR FUCK'S SAKE, THE LIBERAL'S GREEN SHIFT WAS NOT ABOUT INCREASING YOUR TAXES. IT WAS ABOUT LOWERING YOUR INCOME TAX AND TAXING POLLUTERS. I REALIZE THAT THE LIBERALS DID A SHITTY JOB OF COMMUNICATING THAT, BUT JOURNALISTS AND PREMIERS OF OTHER PROVINCES SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIGURE THAT OUT.

Also:

SAYING THAT DION WAS GOING TO TAKE AWAY YOUR $1200 CHILD CARE DEDUCTION, AND THEREFORE YOU'RE VOTING FOR ANOTHER PARTY SHOWS A STARTLING LACK OF THOUGHT OR INTEREST IN NATIONAL POLITICS.

Finally:

On CBC last night, Peter Mansbridge said that due to the low turnout, perhaps Canada should consider electoral reform, which might encourage those people who don't vote to vote.

FUCK YOU PETER MANSBRIDGE. WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU WHEN ONTARIO HAD A REFERENDUM ON THE SUBJECT A YEAR AGO, A VOTE FOR WHICH THE ONLY REASONABLE RESPONSE WAS TO VOTE FOR ELECTORAL REFORM, AND YOU LET THE SCARE TACTICS OF THE PARTIES ENSURE THAT THIS COMPLETELY SENSIBLE IDEA WAS COMPLETELY FUCKING STOMPED.

That is all.

Everything written in capitals I basically agree with, as well as polling people who didn't vote.

Electoral reform is so fucking necessary. The NDP had almost double the popular vote as the Bloc, but somehow they get less seats?

Not as preposterous as the Pepsi-Coke choices in the states, but pretty re-god-damned-diculous.
