Yay! I'm so glad you liked Barney's Version - definitely one of my favourite books ever. My sister felt that it was too male centric, and although Barney is an over the top male stereotype kind of guy that didn't really bother me. He had so much vulnerability and emotion mixed in with the asshole, I thought he was great.

Also just read On Chesil Beach. Honestly, I laughed out loud at the whole bed scene where they actually attempt to have sex for the first time. I don't think it was really supposed to be funny, but I thought the awkwardness was really captured well. I have to agree though, there was a depth of emotion that was really lacking throughout the entire story.

Just thought I'd give a shout out to Ian McEwan in general though. Atonement and Saturday are two fantastic novels. He's an excellent author.
