now, i didn't read the entire article, or every example of these teachers, but the teacher that gave the nine year old head is just wrong. how did she even get through the system when she's crazy enough to cut herself in front of her students? wow....

This may come as a surprise

But I for one welcome this sexpidemic, which may bring about the metalpocalipse or perhaps even the dreaded pornageddon.

But seriously....I think 13 and 14 is out of bounds, but if a guy is 15 or 16 and a teacher has sex with him, good on him. The teacher should get fired for abusing a position of power, but no criminal charges should be pursued....younger than 15 though, send her to jail.

Georgia's response to sex offenders:

i agree with you miguel. i started writing something about how 15 year old guys know what they are doing, and though the teacher shouldn't abuse her (or his, if that's the case) power, i think criminal charges are a bit much. i don't think a 15-16 year old guy is that much of a victim, unless it is to their crazy teenage hormones. i just didn't want to post it in fear of looking like some perv, but you handled it nicely.

i knew a guy in college that claimed to lose his virginity to his babysitter at the age of 12. seriously, that's just WRONG.

The noble state of Georgia is tough......tough, but fair.

Weberm1, you are a noted, infamous perv, so these lame attempts to disguise your debauched nature are not working at all.

All of my years of grabbing boobs and 'corrupting' people has finally paid off!

But where's the moral outrage?

If there was ever a disease I'd try to catch, it'd be a sexpidemic.

It's been already covered, but I would hardly call having sex with 15 or 16 year olds "rape" especially when some of the offenders were in their early 20s. And that one woman who actually recently married the boy she was accused of raping? Come on. Now granted some things are out of bounds, like sucking a 9 year old off, but give me a break. A lot of these little trysts occurred outside of the school too.

And lets not forget the real victims here, the teachers who just wanted a little piece of ass (pun not intended) because their pay is too low to let them wine and dine the men.

the moral outrage...

...is provided by everyone's favourite blowhard Bill O'Reilly, which was my reason for posting. Give me a minute to find the link. (I guess you don't notice the processing delay until I spell it out in the brackets, but here I am carving out a nice little spot anyways...oh... here it is. One moment please).

So if I start teaching high school, and one of my students is a young woman who looks and acts like she's 19, it's cool for me to have sex with her, even if she's only 16?

Or is it only 16 year old guys who get to decide if they can have sex with someone older?

Paul, I'm for the abolition of all laws, so I'm the wrong man to ask.

Ok, I've changed my mind. If the minor in question has hit puberty and willingly engages in sexual contact with a teacher, then that's cool.

Would I like it if it was my kid? Probably not. But I wouldn't like it if they hated someone without a valid reason or picked their nose in public either. So I guess my point is: Beat your kids unmercifully.

I knew you were gonna post that....I almost even had the punctuation right.

It is my view that the dynamics of a relationship are completely different when the genders are reversed. An older male in a position of power will usually be much more physically and mentally imposing then a similar female, the opportunity to coerce and intimidate is much more available. Emphasis on the word usually....I know there are some very scary and imposing female teachers

That being said, I still stick with my original position: if the sex was consensual then the teacher should get fired for abusing his position, but he should not be prosecuted if she was 16 (or whatever the age of consent is).

Okay...

But are 16 year old boys or girls more mature? Which is more likely to be able to make adult decisions? Who's more likely to seduce someone older, a 16 year old boy or girl? Who's more likely to use sex as a weapon?

All very good questions

Which is why I dont care to look at it from the perspective of the victim/younger person/16 year old seductress. It's impossible to come up with an adequate rule when looking at it solely from that viewpoint.

What is known is that 99% of rapes (not counting prison) are done by males, and that by and large they are more physically intimidating and tend to be more threatening than females.....so it makes sense to me to give more leeway in a male student/female teacher situation than the reverse.

Put it this way, when you were 15, do you think a female teacher could have forced you to have sex? Like physically intimidated you?

Right, but there's a difference between consensual sex and forced sex.

If you physically force someone to have sex with you, you always go to jail, no matter how old the person. If it's consensual though, things are different.

yeah. especially if she had some sort of a knife or perhaps a taser, and I was an underdeveloped 15 year old man-child.

There's no way to answer the question of which sex is more mature at any given stage in their development, it's not something that's measurable.

I know adults that can't make adult decisions.

Both sexes are capable of using sex as a weapon, each wield it in their own distinct way.

For instance, I deploy a radioactive sexual nuclear assault missiles. An ex-girlfriend uses poisonous shrapnel mines and carpet bombs laced with trace amounts of napalm.

oops.
