What happens when you try to log into your account?

Server Error

We're sorry, but Gmail is temporarily unavailable. We're currently working to fix the problem -- please try logging in to your account in a few minutes

It's strange that your notifier would still be working. I don't know which one you use, but it must be logging into your account to check for messages, and I know when gmail is down my notifier doesn't work. Maybe this is a stupid idea (though stupid ideas solve at least 50% of my problems at work), but have you tried clearing your browser cache?

If you're using Firefox it's under 'Tools' - 'Options' - 'Privacy' - 'Cache' - then click 'Clear' & 'OK'.

If you're using Internet Explorer then you should be using Firefox, but it's under 'Tools' - 'Internet Options' - then click 'Delete Files' then 'OK' & 'OK' again.

I really have no clue if this will help, but as far as I'm concerned this is this first place to start whenever a website is doing or not doing anything you don't like. Also I have no other bright ideas other than "hurry up and wait".

Well I can't get to my gmail from home or work which makes me think this is their problem, not mine. And even going to www.gmail.com gives me the same message (i.e. not even trying to log in).

Can anyone else access their gmail right now?

I can log in.

As for the notification....it could depend on how it works.

It may not go through the gmail webservers but another set of servers, which could be running fine.

Same could be true for individual users I guess, with certain users assigned to a specific server cluster? Though that seems really weird to me...but may be worthwhile as they could have gmail replicated across a bunch of servers with independant databases to keep each one smaller.

Have you tried looking at support boards or anything to see if other people are having the same problem?

That forum is exactly my problem. So now at least I can check my mail. There is still the issue that I can't check my mail with my notifier running, but that's something I am willing to live with.

Thanks very much for your help guys.

Home is where my beer is.

Not sure which notifier program you use, but you might want to check the site you downloaded it from and see if there's an updated version. With this ever progressing interweb thing programs are frequently made obsolete and/or riddled with glitches. You're welcome for the help. It's more or less what we're both paid to do.
