Forum posts for Jack Astors..

Right on!
Posted by Miguel on Mar 23, 2006

I'm sure you know Duffy that I have an unreasonable hatred for any chain restaurants. And that's because they usually strive for the bottom line over considerations of taste and quality.

To the Jack Astor's and Applebees and Boston Pizzas and Milestones (yes the fucking Milestones) of the world, it's a business first and foremost and they want to make bland generic food that appeals to the widest possible demographic. Where's the love?

P.S Snakes on a Plane coming soon!

P.P.S Look out for my top 10 movies post today, with a little twist.

Yeah but..

Boston Pizza is good. Pricey, but they at least have good food and a decent selection.

Nope

I have actually eaten there, and I specifically remember you raving about it. Had some kinda sausage pizza......didn't enjoy it at all. Then again, I didn't have the perogie pizza everyone keeps raving about.

Right

So you had one pizza there. Fair enough.

But

Chains I don't mind:

Popeyes chicken
Harveys
Licks
Swiss Chalet on very rare occasions
Spring Rolls
Amato's
Once a year craving for Macnuggets (great for valentines dinner)
Used to like Quiznos....but its gone downhill in a major way

That's about it. I usually don't like the Jack Astors, Crabby Joes, Kelseys type places at all.

What are some chains you like.

Good question

Uh.
Boston Pizza, although as mentioned, they're kind of pricey
Quiznos
Subway when I'm in a hurry and want something somewhat healthy
I don't think Kelsey's is bad, it's definitely the best of the chain restaurants that offer that type of food
Hmm, there are probably more...

Chains that I don't think of as Chains:
Demetre's
Licks
Amatos
Some Pita places.

Well, I'm definitely not hitting up Jack Astor's anytime soon after reading this!

I will take this opportunity to thank the both of you in expanding my culinary experience outside of the generic chain restaurants.

The world is a better place with New York Sub. Man, I'm hungry.

Can I just add...

an amazing place that I wish WAS a chain.

Philipp took us to The Works the last time we were in Ottawa. It's a burger joint. They said the wait would be 20 minutes, which I thought "I dunno, that sounds like a long time for a burger". But we stuck it out, because Philipp insisted they were the best.

I usually shy away from hype, and hate things even more strictly based on the hype. But let me tell you, this place made a damned good burger. They have 64 types of topping combos, and you can get a beef, turkey, chicken, veg or portabello patty. I went with the fungi. God damn it, it was good.

I wish there was one in T.O.

I'm calling you on this Miguel!

Can you please remind me who the person was the devoured my leftover ribs the other night, that I ordered after meeting friends at......MILESTONES????

Ya, that's right. It was you. And you said they were good.

Dammit Katie

You are, like, so totally ruining my internet street cred. I devoured them because I was really hungry.

I dont remember saying they were good, but they were actually ok.
